Extending SoilDoc to Nigeria
In July and August, the AgCenter held two SoilDoc trainings in Nigeria that were part of a partnership with the government of Nigeria. The training was focused on soil sampling and soil physical testing, soil analysis, and data management using an android. The first two-week training was held in Kaduna, with the second in Ibadan. Altogether, the two phases of the course trained 62 agriculture officers from different organizations, with a focus on government representatives, from 31 states across Nigeria. The group included officers from the agricultural development program of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, academia from the federal university, and private organizations, such as fertilizer companies. Each trainee will be equipped with a SoilDoc kit and will be collecting soil samples and working with the kit in their respective area.
