Activities
While many efforts are being made to tackle the interlinked challenges facing the world, AgCenter contributes in a unique way. The cross-cutting nature of our work, our extensive operating bases in Africa, and our position at the hub of the science, policy, and practitioner communities are exceptional. While much of our work is cross-cutting in nature, key research and activities fall into five main areas: agriculture, environment, nutrition and human well-being, education, and policy support.
Cross-sectoral initiatives: By working across disciplines, AgCenter identifies and investigates the research questions at the frontier of the complex issues underlying agricultural and environmental sustainability.
Operating bases in Africa: AgCenter leads two major research efforts in Africa — the MVP and AfSIS — and works with the two Earth Institute regional MDG Support Centers, which are headquartered in Nairobi and Bamako. Through this network, AgCenter regularly draws from experts who have a strong understanding of complex rural societies.
Policy and partnerships. AgCenter has close links with the world’s leading policymakers, international organizations, and national governments. We engage with these partners to ensure that our research translates into policy outcomes.
